Besides providing a large green space in the urban area of New Wortley, New Wortley Recreation Ground also boasts a number of other facilities including a skatepark, children's play area, bowling greens and pitches for rugby and football. Due to its high elevation, good views can be had towards the city. Certainly in the direction of Beeston, the Leeds United football club Hesco stand on Elland Road is very evident. In 1988 the Yorkshire Television comedy drama, the Beiderbecke Connection, was filmed around the bowling greens and in the Bowls Pavilion.
