The Aire Valley Towpath Route

The Aire Valley Towpath Route utilises the Leeds Liverpool canal towpath from Leeds to Bingley and is suitable for walking and cycling. The route was devised through a partnership between Leeds City Council, Bradford City Council, British Waterways and Sustrans.

The Aire Valley Towpath is part of the National Cycle Network, coordinated by Sustrans. The Network is made up of more than 13,000miles of traffic-free, quiet lanes and on-road walking and cycling routes around the UK.

Sustrans is the charity that's enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day. Make your move and support Sustrans  today.

For more information about Sustrans routes in your area, or more about Sustrans and how to support our work, please peruse our website www.sustrans.org.uk or telephone 0845 113 00 65.

Please note that the Towpath Route is a linear route, so if you wish to cycle or walk one way, then it is important to arrange transport for the return trip be it by bus or train. Contact  details for Metro are on the leaflet below.
